Cardinal Newman Welcomes new Athletic Director

After a national search, Cardinal Newman High School is excited to announce the appointment of Andre Torres as the new Athletic DirectorAndre brings 14 years of high school athletic administration and coaching experience to Newman. Previously, he was the Athletic Director at Chaminade Madonna College Preparatory in Hollywood, FL. Under his leadership, the school received the Miami Herald Major Sports Award for Broward 4A-1A Boys last year. While at Chaminade, he also coached boys basketball and led his team to the 2020 State Semi-finals. 
 
“We are very pleased to welcome Andre as Director of Athletics. He is an accomplished athletic director who in his new role will be able to demonstrate his considerable leadership skills and athletic contacts,” said Newman President Br. Thomas Zoppo, FSC. “We are very proud of our past athletic accomplishments and we are confident that Andre will have a positive impact on our student athletes and the entire Newman community in the years ahead.” 
 
“Athletics has been an important part of my life. It has given me purpose and has put me in a position to take the values and lessons I’ve learned through athletics and share them with student athletes,” said Torres. “I look forward to building upon Newman’s great athletic legacy.”
 
As the newly appointed Athletic DirectorTorres will have overall supervision responsibilities of more than 30 coaches and 22 teams in 14 sports. Andre’s passion for athletics, his belief in servant leadership, and his dedication to the development of student athletes were all evident to the selection committee. 
 
Torres graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a B.S. in Business Administration and possesses certification as an athletic administrator. During the weeks prior to the start of the new academic year, Andre will work closely with current AD Jay Lower who becomes Director of Student Activities.
